About Us

Blue Ocean Mariculture was founded in 2009 to pursue the sustainable farming of local Hawaiian marine finfish. We are proud to be the only open ocean mariculture farm in the United States. With first-hand experience in commercial capture fisheries and understand that some farming of the oceans is necessary and inevitable.

We are the exclusive producer of Seriola rivoliana, better known by the market name Hawaiian Kanpachi, a premium sashimi-grade fish coveted by chefs at top sushi and fine dining restaurants everywhere. Hawaiian Kanpachi is raised in the clear, clean waters off Kona, Hawaii, using the most environmentally sustainable aquaculture farming methods.

About the Role

The ideal candidate excels at building relationships and has a proven record in sales to high-end restaurants and food distributors. The primary responsibility of this position is to promote Hawaiian Kanpachi to chefs and restaurant managers in our target markets and support our distributor partners with product training and field work. The Sales Manager will be responsible for meeting and exceeding the Company’s sales objectives. This position reports directly to the Director, Sales and manages existing customer relationships while developing new relationships with distributors, resorts, restaurants, and other retail outlets.

Duties, Responsibilities, & Requisites

  • Drive Sales performance by analyzing data and making informed decisions to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Utilize data analysis to enhance partnerships, refine pricing strategies, and optimize product sales.
  • Collaborate with the senior team to identify target prospects based on data insights to adjust promotional strategies as needed.
  • Develop data-driven sales execution plans tailored to specific markets and regions focusing on volume targets.
  • Support distributor partnerships with product training, restaurant ride-along, and marketing.
  • Organize and lead the company’s participation in trade shows and events working closely with the Marketing team.
  • Foster close collaboration with the harvesting and processing teams to relay precise harvest figures, enabling timely adjustments to sales goals based on communicated data.
  • Provide comprehensive reporting on sales activities, ensuring clarity and actionable tasks.
  • Work closely with the marketing team to create engaging sales content for print and social media platforms.

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum 7 years of successful experience with fresh food sales, preferably seafood.
  • Passion for and experience working within the seafood industry and working with fine dining restaurants, high profile chefs and specialty distributors.
  • Well-organized, initiative-taking, ability to work independently and operate with an elevated level of enthusiasm.
  • Effective oral, written and listening communication skills.
  • Confidence with sales data analysis and CRM tools.
  • Confidence to interact directly with high profile chefs and media outlets.
  • Desire to make a positive impact on sustainable food production and ocean health.
  • A demonstrated forward-looking, strategic, and innovative thinker.
  • A dynamic, persistent personality with the drive to excellence.
  • Ability to travel to/from client and distributor partners.

This position will serve the Continental US and is considered a remote position.
